You Are

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Applications Engineer to support deployment and adoption of advanced memory characterization solutions at leading semiconductor companies worldwide.

This role combines deep technical expertise in memory design, characterization, circuit simulation, and library generation with strong customer engagement and technical leadership skills. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to customers, helping them develop, validate, and optimize memory characterization methodologies while working closely with R&D, Product Management, and worldwide field teams.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with memory design and characterization flows and hands-on knowledge of industry-standard characterization tools such as LiberateMX, PrimeLib, SiliconSmart, or similar solutions. Experience with memory circuit simulation and signoff technologies including HSPICE, PrimeSim XA, CustomSim, Spectre, NanoTime, and PrimeTime is highly desirable.

What You'll Be Doing

Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership

• Serve as the primary technical interface for strategic semiconductor customers deploying memory characterization solutions.
• Lead customer evaluations, proof-of-concepts, benchmarks, and production deployments.
• Work directly with customer memory design, characterization, CAD, methodology, and library teams to understand requirements and drive successful adoption.
• Provide technical leadership during customer escalations and resolve complex issues involving memory design, SPICE simulation, characterization, library generation, and signoff validation.
• Deliver technical presentations, methodology reviews, workshops, and training sessions.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor helping customers improve characterization quality, runtime, scalability, and deployment readiness.
• Drive competitive displacement opportunities involving migration from alternative solutions such as LiberateMX and other characterization environments.
• Coordinate cross-functional efforts involving Applications Engineering, Product Management, R&D, and customer engineering teams.
• Travel as needed to support key customer engagements, deployments, and strategic initiatives.

Technical Responsibilities

• Support characterization of SRAMs, register files, ROMs, embedded memories, custom memory macros, and memory compilers.
• Develop and optimize memory characterization methodologies across advanced process technologies.
• Debug and resolve characterization, modeling, simulation, convergence, and library quality issues.
• Drive validation and correlation activities for timing, power, leakage, and variation-aware models.
• Assist customers in deploying scalable production characterization flows.
• Collaborate with R&D to reproduce customer issues and influence future product enhancements.
• Develop best practices, reference methodologies, and technical collateral for customer adoption.

• Accelerate customer adoption of advanced memory modeling techniques including variation-aware characterization, CCS timing, CCS noise, and statistical analysis
• Resolve critical customer escalations that directly impact tapeout schedules and product success at strategic accounts
• Influence the direction of Synopsys memory characterization and simulation products based on real-world customer requirements and deployment feedback
• Build long-term technical relationships with memory design and CAD teams at top-tier semiconductor companies worldwide
• Expand Synopsys footprint in memory characterization by winning competitive evaluations and driving migrations from alternative toolsets
• Contribute to the development of industry best practices and reference flows that raise the bar for memory characterization quality and efficiency

• Additional Experience

  • Advanced node characterization and validation
  • Memory compiler qualification and deployment
  • High-capacity simulation methodologies
  • Machine learning or automation techniques applied to characterization flows
  • Customer-facing applications engineering experience within EDA or semiconductor industries

Who You Are

• Deep expertise in memory design and characterization.
• Strong hands-on experience with characterization tools such as PrimeLib, LiberateMX, SiliconSmart, or equivalent solutions.
• Expertise with simulation technologies including HSPICE, PrimeSim XA, CustomSim, Spectre and NanoTime.
• Strong understanding of signoff methodologies and downstream consumption flows.
• Proven customer engagement experience supporting strategic semiconductor accounts.
• The ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technical managers, architects, and executive stakeholders.
• A passion for solving difficult customer problems and turning customer requirements into product improvements.
• Experience with scripting in python, tcl and AI experience preferred

You will be part of the Customer Application Services organization supporting memory characterization solutions globally. You will collaborate closely with field applications engineers, R&D teams working on PrimeLib and simulation technologies, Product Management, and customer-facing teams across regions. Your work will directly support strategic semiconductor customers deploying memory IP and characterization flows for advanced process nodes.
