Technical Support Engineer, Sr. Engineer
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You have spent enough time in electromagnetics or signal integrity work to know that the simulation is only as good as the setup, and the setup only matters if the customer can actually use it. You understand S-parameters, impedance, and eye diagrams not as textbook concepts but as tools you reach for when someone's PCB layout is causing crosstalk or their connector design is failing compliance.
You like helping people solve problems. Not in a vague customer service way, but in the specific sense of sitting with an engineer who is stuck, asking the right questions, reproducing the issue, and walking them to a solution that actually works. You know when to escalate and when to dig in yourself.
Working across HFSS, SIwave, or similar tools feels natural to you. You have used them enough to know where they shine and where customers typically get tripped up. You are organized enough to manage multiple support cases without dropping threads, and you communicate clearly whether you are writing to a customer, filing a defect report, or briefing a product team on what users are asking for.
At Synopsys, you will work directly with customers using Ansys electronics simulation tools, and what you learn from them will feed back into how the product evolves.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide technical support to customers using Ansys AEDT, HFSS, HFSS 3D Layout, SIwave, Q3D, and AEDT Circuit for electronics and electromagnetics simulation
- Troubleshoot moderately complex simulation issues involving signal integrity, power integrity, crosstalk, impedance, and eye-diagram analysis
- Work directly with customers and channel partners to understand their technical requirements and recommend workflows that align with their design objectives
- Document product improvement opportunities, submit defect reports to development teams, verify fixes, and participate in field testing of new software releases
- Evaluate new software releases using real customer use cases and industrial applications to support release readiness
- Contribute to internal knowledge bases, technical documentation, and enablement content that help the broader support team and customer base
- Share customer feedback, workflow insights, and technical needs with product development and field teams to inform product quality and usability improvements
The Impact You Will Have
- Help customers successfully adopt and extract value from Ansys simulation tools, reducing time to resolution and increasing product confidence
- Surface real-world customer workflows and pain points that directly inform product development priorities and roadmap decisions
- Improve product quality by identifying, documenting, and verifying fixes for defects and usability issues before they reach a broader customer base
- Strengthen customer relationships by delivering clear, practical guidance that solves their engineering challenges and builds trust in the toolset
- Contribute to a growing knowledge base and support processes that scale the effectiveness of the entire Customer Excellence organization
- Enable faster, more accurate simulations for electronics designs that power everything from consumer devices to aerospace systems
- Build a feedback loop between field experience and product engineering that makes the software better with every release cycle
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field with coursework or focus in high-frequency electromagnetics; Master's degree is a plus
- Hands-on experience with Ansys HFSS, SIwave, or comparable CAE, CAD, or EDA simulation tools or competitor equivalent
- Working knowledge in one or more of these areas: signal integrity, power integrity, crosstalk analysis, impedance simulations, or eye-diagram analysis
- Understanding of circuit-level and timing analysis for signal integrity applications, including relevant compliance standards and design considerations
- Experience with package, PCB, or connector design workflows and the engineering processes that support them
- Familiarity with microwave and antenna fundamentals including S-parameters, wave propagation, and scattering analysis
- U.S. work authorization required; U.S. citizenship preferred where required by customer, export control, or government contract requirements
Who You Are
- You can take a customer's vague description of a simulation problem, ask the right follow-up questions, and narrow it down to a reproducible issue or a workflow misunderstanding
- You stay organized across multiple open cases, follow through on commitments, and escalate when you hit the edge of your knowledge without letting things fall through the cracks
- You write clearly whether you are documenting a defect, explaining a workaround to a customer, or summarizing feedback for a product manager
- You are comfortable working with guidance from senior engineers when needed, and you actively look for opportunities to build your technical depth and customer-facing skills
- You can travel domestically up to 10% of the time for customer visits, training, or team meetings when needed
