Senior Application Engineer
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You have spent enough time in CFD to know that multiphase flow is where things get interesting and messy. You understand physics, you know how to set up a simulation that converges, and you have debugged enough mesh problems to recognize a bad geometry handoff before you even open it. But here is what sets you apart: you care about whether the customer can use what you build. You do not just run a benchmark and walk away. You think about their workflow, their timeline, and whether they can replicate your approach without calling you every week.
You are comfortable in customer conversations. Not the scripted demo kind, the real kind where someone describes a problem in their language and you translate it into simulation terms without making them feel like they should have known better. You ask good questions. You listen to what they are not saying. When a sales cycle needs technical weight, you bring it without overcomplicating the message.
Learning DEM and SPH do not intimidate you. You see it as the next logical step, not a separate discipline. At Synopsys, you will work with tools that matter, customers who have real problems to solve, and a team that values technical depth and customer outcomes equally.
What You'll Be Doing
•Support Account Managers and sales teams through technical discovery, demonstrations, evaluations, and proof-of-concept work that helps customers understand how Ansys Fluent, Rocky, and FreeFlow solve their specific engineering challenges
•Lead customer-facing technical sessions to uncover application requirements, workflow constraints, and success criteria that shape how we position and configure simulation solutions
•Prepare and deliver demonstrations and benchmarks using Ansys Fluent for multiphase CFD applications, while building practical capability in DEM workflows with Ansys Rocky and SPH with Ansys FreeFlow
•Work directly with customer CAD and geometry, performing clean-up, mesh generation, simulation setup, and results interpretation across industries including oil and gas, energy, mining, industrial equipment, and healthcare
• Collaborate with Product and Development teams to share structured customer feedback, application gaps, and field insights that inform product roadmaps and improve usability for real-world deployment
•Develop internal enablement content, best-practice workflows, and knowledge-sharing material that helps scale technical expertise across the Application Engineering and sales organizations
•Deliver occasional professional services, customer training sessions, and workshops to support adoption and help customers become self-sufficient with Ansys simulation tools
The Impact You Will Have
•You will directly influence revenue growth by turning technical evaluations into successful customer engagements that lead to expanded simulation adoption
•Your technical guidance will help customers solve complex multiphase flow and particle dynamics problems they could not address before, accelerating their product development timelines
•The proof-of-concept work you lead will become the foundation for long-term customer workflows, making simulation a repeatable part of their engineering process
•Your feedback loop with Product and Development teams will shape future capabilities in Ansys Fluent, Rocky, and FreeFlow based on real customer application needs
•You will build credibility and trust with technical stakeholders across industries, positioning Synopsys as the partner who understands their challenges and delivers solutions that scale
•The enablement material and best practices you create will amplify the technical capability of the entire Application Engineering organization
•You will help grow the Fluids business in emerging application areas by connecting customer challenges with the right combination of CFD and Particle Dynamics technologies
What You'll Need
•Bachelor's or master’s in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
•At least 2 years of professional experience in an engineering software environment if you have a bachelor’s degree, or relevant hands-on experience with an MS
•Strong foundation in Computational Fluid Dynamics with practical experience using Ansys Fluent or similar commercial CFD tools to solve real engineering problems
•Hands-on experience with multiphase flow simulation, including model setup, solver configuration, results interpretation, and translating findings into engineering recommendations
•Demonstrated ability to prepare geometry for simulation, including CAD clean-up and mesh generation using tools that integrate with CFD workflows
•Advanced or fluent English for customer-facing engagements and collaboration with global teams across sales, product, and development organizations
•Knowledge of Discrete Element Method (DEM) or Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) using Ansys Rocky, Ansys FreeFlow, or similar tools is a strong plus, as is experience with Python or C++ for automation and workflow customization
Who You Are
•You can walk into a customer meeting, listen to a problem described in their terms, and walk out with a clear technical plan that maps to simulation capabilities without overselling or underdelivering
•You manage multiple technical activities at once, customer evaluations, internal testing, feedback loops with product teams, and you do not lose track of what matters most in each one
•You are comfortable saying "I do not know yet, but here is how I will find out" when a customer asks about a capability outside your current expertise, and then you actually go find out
•You build credibility through follow-through, if you say you will send a workflow example or test a specific setup, it gets done and it gets done well
•You can explain a complex tradeoff, mesh resolution versus solve time, DEM coupling versus CFD-only approaches, in a way that helps a customer make a decision without needing a PhD to follow along
•You are genuinely interested in how customers use simulation in the real world, not just in controlled benchmark conditions, and that curiosity makes you better at your job
The Team You'll Be Part Of
You will join the Synopsys Customer Excellence and Application Engineering team within the Fluids Business Unit. This is a customer-facing, technically grounded team that works closely with sales, product management, and development to support revenue growth and customer success across CFD, multiphase flow, and Particle Dynamics applications. The team operates in a hybrid model based in Florianópolis, Brazil, and collaborates with global colleagues across time zones and technical disciplines. Your work will directly support customers in industries including industrial equipment, oil and gas, energy, mining, healthcare, and high tech.
Rewards and Benefits
We offer a comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits to cater to your needs. Our total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings. Your recruiter will provide more details about the salary range and benefits during the hiring process.
At Synopsys, we want talented people of every background to feel valued and supported to do their best work. Synopsys considers all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, military veteran status, or disability.
