This is a hybrid position in our Florianopolis, SC office in Brazil. We request all resumes/CVs to be submitted in English for this role.
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You are the engineer and/or a computer scientist who wants your code to do real work, not just pass the test suite. You see a physics problem and immediately start sketching out how you’d approach it in C++ or Python. You think in algorithms and data structures, but you know the real world is messier than any textbook, and you like figuring out what actually works, not just what should work. You’ve spent enough time wrestling with floating point errors and edge cases to know that numerical analysis is half art, half science. You look at a bug report and see a chance to dig deep, not a chore to close. Collaboration comes naturally—you ask smart questions, you listen, and you make your point clearly, even when talking to someone halfway around the world. You want your work to end up in a product used by real engineers and scientists, not just in a repository. If someone says “parallelize this,” you at least know where to start. You care about building things that last, that scale, and that make a difference.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, implement, and maintain software modules and subsystems for Ansys Rocky and Ansys FreeFlow (DEM/SPH simulation software) using C++ and Python
- Analyze and translate customer requirements into practical development objectives and features
- Debug and resolve issues, including performing bug verification, release testing, and beta support for assigned products
- Write clear, maintainable documentation for new and existing codebases
- Collaborate closely with other engineers and QA to research and solve problems uncovered during testing or customer support
- Apply numerical analysis techniques—linear algebra, interpolation, differentiation, integration—to solve engineering simulation problems
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to best practices, and support continuous improvement in the team’s development methodology
The Impact You Will Have
- Help deliver robust, high-performance simulation tools trusted by engineers and scientists worldwide
- Improve the accuracy and reliability of particle dynamics simulations that customers depend on for real-world engineering challenges
- Reduce time-to-market for new features by translating customer needs into working code
- Raise the quality bar through thoughtful debugging, documentation, and collaboration
- Contribute to a product that is used in cutting-edge research and industrial applications
- Make the development process smoother for your teammates by sharing knowledge and refining workflows
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field with at least 5 years’ experience, a Master’s degree with at least 3 years’ experience, or a PhD with at least 1 year of experience
- Hands-on experience with C++ in a professional or academic setting
- Solid grasp of numerical analysis, linear algebra, and core algorithms
- Experience working with development methodologies and collaborating in team environments
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and adapt to evolving requirements
- Knowledge of MPI, OpenMP, or CUDA is a plus
- Familiarity with Ansys products or experience in large-scale commercial software development environments is a bonus
Who You Are
- You can look at a bug report and trace it from the symptom to the root cause without getting lost in the weeds
- You’re comfortable explaining a tricky math or algorithmic decision to a teammate who’s not a specialist
- You ask for help when you need it and offer help when you see someone else stuck
- You keep your documentation up to date because you know someone else (maybe you, six months from now) will need it
- You move projects forward by proposing solutions, not just pointing out problems
- You thrive in a collaborative, distributed team and know how to keep communication clear and productive across time zones.
The Team You'll Be Part Of
You’ll join a Brazil-based R&D team focused on developing Ansys Rocky and Ansys FreeFlow, our DEM/SPH simulation software. The group brings together engineers who know both the physics and the code, collaborating closely to build tools used by scientists and engineers around the world. You’ll work alongside teammates who care about getting the details right, sharing knowledge, and delivering features that matter.
