You Are

You are an accomplished Functional Safety Engineer with extensive experience in embedded systems and a demonstrated track record of delivering ISO 26262-compliant products in safety-critical industries, particularly automotive. Your expertise encompasses the complete spectrum of functional safety work products—from safety plans and hazard analyses through FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, safety requirements decomposition, and safety case development. With a strong foundation in embedded software engineering, you possess the technical depth to effectively bridge safety concepts with firmware implementation, device drivers, and real-time operating systems.

You have successfully managed functional safety projects from initial hazard analysis and risk assessment through safety goal definition, ASIL determination, and final safety assessment. Your approach to documentation is methodical and thorough, ensuring traceability and audit-readiness. As a skilled communicator and collaborative professional, you work effectively across R&D, verification, and systems engineering teams. You are comfortable with occasional travel to support global collaboration and customer engagement.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead functional safety activities for embedded software and IP projects, ensuring full compliance with ISO 26262 requirements throughout the development lifecycle
• Develop comprehensive FuSa work products including safety plans, safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, FMEDA), safety requirement specifications, and safety cases that meet certification standards
• Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessments, define safety goals and ASIL classifications, and systematically decompose safety requirements from system level to software and hardware unit level
• Collaborate with R&D teams across Controller, PHY, FPGA, and verification disciplines to integrate functional safety practices into design, implementation, and verification activities
• Coordinate safety reviews and assessments with internal stakeholders and external certification bodies, ensuring readiness for third-party evaluation
• Establish and maintain comprehensive traceability of safety requirements across all development artifacts using requirements management tools such as DOORS or Polarion

What You'll Need

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in functional safety engineering, embedded systems development, or safety-critical software in automotive or comparable industries
• Expert knowledge of ISO 26262 with demonstrated proficiency in parts 4 (system), 6 (software), and 8 (supporting processes)
• Proven track record developing functional safety work products that have successfully passed third-party assessment by certification bodies such as TÜV SÜD or TÜV Rheinland
• Strong technical foundation in embedded software development, including proficiency with C programming, RTOS implementations, and safety-relevant architecture patterns
• Professional certification as a Functional Safety Engineer from a recognized certification body is highly valued
