We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You have spent years working close enough to silicon to understand what breaks in production and what holds up in the lab, and you know that test pattern generation is where theory meets the messy reality of actual chips. You are the kind of engineer who looks at tool output, spots the pattern no one else saw, and builds a prototype that proves the better way forward before anyone writes a spec.
You do not need a polished requirements doc to get started. You sit with product engineers, ask the right questions, pull apart what the tool is actually doing versus what it should be doing, and sketch a path from prototype to production-ready automation. You have worked in EDA flows long enough to know where timing analysis ends and test begins, and you can move between those domains without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Prototyping is not a side project for you, it is how you think. You build to learn, you verify to prove, and you hand off solutions that developers can actually automate. At Synopsys, you will work on TestMAX ATPG accuracy improvements that directly affect how semiconductor companies bring chips to market.
What You'll Be Doing
- Analyze data produced by TestMAX ATPG and related test generation tools to identify accuracy gaps, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Work directly with product engineers to translate technical requirements into prototyping objectives that solve real customer problems
- Design and prototype solutions that aggregate advanced design data to improve test pattern generation accuracy and coverage
- Define tool flow architecture that bridges prototype concepts and production-ready automation, working closely with R&D developers
- Verify prototypes against real-world design scenarios, ensuring solutions scale and integrate cleanly into existing EDA workflows
- Collaborate with R&D development teams to transition prototypes into fully automated features within the TestMAX product line
- Document findings, dependencies, and solution architectures in a way that accelerates handoff and reduces downstream rework
The Impact You Will Have
- Improve the accuracy of test pattern generation across Synopsys TestMAX ATPG, directly affecting test coverage and quality for semiconductor customers
- Enable faster, more reliable chip bring-up by reducing test escapes and improving fault detection early in the design cycle
- Accelerate R&D cycles by delivering proven prototypes that developers can automate with confidence, not guesswork
- Influence the architecture of next-generation test flows by identifying and validating new ways to leverage timing, power, and design data
- Strengthen collaboration between product engineering and R&D by serving as the technical bridge that turns requirements into working solutions
- Reduce time to market for Synopsys customers by making test generation more efficient and accurate at scale
- Shape how Synopsys approaches prototyping and innovation in the Hardware Analytics and Test product group
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in digital design, EDA tool flows, or semiconductor test engineering
- Solid understanding of Test Pattern Generation (ATPG) principles, fault models, and test coverage methodologies
- Working knowledge of Static Timing Analysis (STA) flows and how timing constraints affect test generation
- Familiarity with static and dynamic power analysis concepts and their role in test and design verification
- Experience prototyping technical solutions in an R&D or product engineering context, experience with scripting languages like Python, Tcl, or Perl is a plus
- Strong ability to analyze complex tool outputs, identify patterns, and translate findings into actionable prototypes
Who You Are
- You can walk into a room with product engineers, listen to a customer problem, and walk out with a clear prototyping plan that addresses the root cause, not just the symptom
- You are comfortable working in ambiguity, you do not wait for perfect data or fully baked requirements to start building and testing ideas
- You think in flows, not just features, and you understand how timing, power, and test data interact across the EDA toolchain
- You know how to hand off work in a way that makes the next person's job easier, not harder, whether that is clear documentation, clean code, or a well-scoped architecture
- You push back when a solution does not make technical sense, and you do it in a way that moves the conversation forward instead of stalling it
- You are organized enough to manage multiple prototyping efforts at once without losing track of dependencies, timelines, or quality
