Hardware Application Engineer
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You are someone who likes working on real hardware, not just reading about it in logs. You have spent time bringing up systems, tracking down why something is not powering on correctly, or figuring out whether a failure is a configuration issue, a cable problem, or something deeper in the platform itself. You think in layers. When something breaks, you do not guess, you isolate, test, and confirm before escalating or resolving.
You are comfortable being the person who gets called when hardware goes down because you know how to triage fast and communicate clearly while you work. You have worked with customers or internal teams who depend on uptime, and you understand that every hour a system is offline costs someone their schedule. You do not wait for problems to surface, you run diagnostics, track patterns, and catch issues before they become incidents.
Working remotely does not slow you down. You coordinate across time zones, document what you find, and know when to pull in R&D versus when to solve it yourself. At Synopsys, you will work on ZeBu emulation and HAPS prototyping platforms that customers rely on to verify their designs, and your job is to make sure the hardware side just works.
What You'll Be Doing
- Serve as the primary technical resource for hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and infrastructure stability for ZeBu emulation and HAPS prototyping systems deployed at customer sites and in data centers
- Diagnose and isolate hardware-level failures from customer design issues, working through physical configuration, cabling, power, firmware, and system diagnostics
- Proactively run diagnostics, track downtime patterns, and schedule software and firmware upgrades to prevent issues before customers encounter them
- Coordinate with Synopsys hardware R&D teams to escalate complex platform issues, provide field data, and validate fixes in real deployment environments
- Maintain detailed documentation of hardware incidents, resolutions, and system configurations to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
- Work remotely and travel locally to customer sites or data centers during critical escalations and installation backlog periods, up to 25% of the time
- Communicate status, timelines, and technical tradeoffs clearly to customers, field engineers, and internal stakeholders during active incidents
The Impact You Will Have
- Keep critical emulation and prototyping hardware online so customers can meet their chip verification schedules without delays caused by platform downtime
- Offload hardware troubleshooting from field application engineers so they can focus on software, design, and customer methodology support
- Catch hardware issues early through proactive diagnostics and monitoring, reducing the number of surprise failures that disrupt customer workflows
- Build a knowledge base of hardware failure modes, configurations, and fixes that makes the entire support organization faster and more effective
- Provide real-world field data back to R&D that helps improve platform stability, diagnostics tooling, and deployment best practices
- Reduce mean time to resolution for hardware incidents by being the person who knows the platform inside and out and can isolate root cause quickly
- Help Synopsys customers trust that when they deploy ZeBu or HAPS systems, the hardware will be reliable and supported when things go wrong
What You'll Need
- Under 2 years of hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, system troubleshooting, or platform support
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to isolate hardware issues from design or software problems in complex systems
- Comfort working with physical hardware including cabling, power systems, firmware updates, and diagnostic tools
- Ability to coordinate across teams, document technical issues clearly, and communicate status during live incidents
- Willingness to work remotely with local travel to customer sites during critical escalations and installation periods
- Experience with or willingness to learn ZeBu emulation and HAPS prototyping platforms through hands-on training
Who You Are
- You can walk into a situation where hardware is down and methodically work through the possible causes without jumping to conclusions or creating noise
- You are organized enough to track multiple customer systems, schedule proactive maintenance windows, and follow up on open issues without things falling through the cracks
- You communicate clearly under pressure, whether that means explaining a delay to a customer or writing up an incident report that someone else can learn from
- You are comfortable being the hardware expert in the room, even when that room is a video call with people in three time zones who need you to make a call quickly
- You do not need someone looking over your shoulder to stay on top of diagnostics, upgrades, or follow-up work, you manage your own workload and flag issues early
- You like solving real problems on real systems more than theoretical work, and you take ownership of keeping things running
The Team You'll Be Part Of

Your focus will be on hardware infrastructure for ZeBu emulation and HAPS prototyping platforms, and you will coordinate with hardware R&D, field application engineers, and customer teams to ensure platform stability and uptime. Your work directly supports customers who depend on these systems to verify their chip designs.
