We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You have spent time at the intersection of physics and software, building simulation tools that engineers trust to sign off on multimillion-dollar designs. You understand that a thermal model is only as good as its ability to predict real-world failure modes, and you have debugged FEM solvers to know where the math breaks down and where the implementation does.
You are comfortable reading a C++ codebase, reviewing heat transfer theory, and optimizing a distributed solver, we want to talk to you! When someone describes a new FinFET thermal challenge or a 3DIC stress problem, you start sketching the physics and thinking about how the code needs to change to handle it.
You do not need perfect requirements. You work with technical leads and product managers to define what needs building, then you build it. Medium-sized projects do not scare you; they energize you because you know how to break them into pieces, validate as you go, and deliver on time without cutting corners. At Synopsys, you will work on simulation tools that help the semiconductor industry solve the hardest Multiphysics problems at the edge of what is physically possible.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, develop, and deliver new capabilities for Synopsys Multiphysics simulation and modeling tools used for thermal, structural, reliability analysis of complex ICs including 3DIC, FinFET, and stacked-die architectures
- Work with your manager and technical leads to refine requirements and then execute
- Diagnose and fix software defects across the codebase, ensuring correctness and maintaining the sign-off accuracy
- Optimize solver performance and memory usage so that engineers can run larger, more complex simulations faster
- Build unit, regression, and system-level tests to validate new features and ensure changes do not break existing workflows
- Collaborate with other engineers, technical leads, and your manager to communicate design decisions, surface dependencies, and refine solutions as the code evolves
- Apply best practices in software engineering to ensure your code is efficient, scalable, maintainable, extensible, and understandable by the team
The Impact You Will Have
- Enable semiconductor designers to close timing, power, and reliability on chips that power everything from data centers to mobile devices
- Improve simulation runtime and capacity so engineers can iterate faster and explore more design options before taping out
- Deliver features that help customers predict and prevent thermal and mechanical failures in next-generation IC architecture
- Strengthen the robustness and accuracy of tools that are used for sign-off decisions affecting billions of dollars in semiconductor development
- Contribute to a codebase and toolset that supports the entire semiconductor industry as it navigates the physics challenges of shrinking geometries
- Help Synopsys maintain its leadership position in Multiphysics simulation by shipping high-quality, reliable software on schedule
What You'll Need
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (will consider PhD)
- Strong knowledge of finite element method (FEM) and finite volume method (FVM) modeling
- Deep understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer theory
- Knowledge in mechanics of materials, solid mechanics, stress analysis, and fatigue analysis
- Proficient in C++ with a broad understanding of the language and ability to work in large, complex codebases. Python scripting, automation and prototyping, a plus.
- Working knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and debugging techniques
- Knowledge using APDL, Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Ansys Icepak, Ansys Fluent, or COMSOL is a big plus
Who You Are
- You can pick up a complex codebase, understand how the pieces fit together, and start contributing immediately
- You complete high-quality work on time because you know how to scope, prioritize, and ask for help when you need it
- You can sit in a design review, understand a thermal or mechanical problem being described, and translate it into a software solution
- You communicate clearly and proactively, learn quickly and care about writing code that is readable, maintainable and can be built upon
The Team You'll Be Part Of
You will join the Research and Development team that builds Synopsys Multiphysics simulation and modeling tools. This team works on the software that helps semiconductor companies ensure thermal and structural integrity and reliability of the most complex ICs in production today. The problems you will solve are rooted in real physics, the code you will write has to handle real-world scale and complexity, and the tools you will build are used for sign-off decisions across the industry.
