We Are

Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.

You Are

You have spent years building software that semiconductor engineers depend on, not just use occasionally, depend on, and you understand that when a library characterization tool crashes at hour 47 of a 50-hour run, someone's tapeout schedule just moved. You know the difference between code that works on your laptop and code that scales across distributed compute farms processing terabytes of SPICE data.

You are the kind of engineer who sees an AI coding assistant not as a novelty but as a lever, someone who has already figured out how to use LLMs to generate test harnesses, refactor legacy C++ without breaking APIs, or prototype algorithms faster. You do not treat these tools like magic, you treat them like any other part of your workflow: useful when applied with judgment, risky when trusted blindly.

You have worked close enough to hardware to understand what a standard cell library actually is and why characterization accuracy matters. At Synopsys, you will work on PrimeLib, a tool that generates the timing and power models that make or break chip performance at advanced nodes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and develop core features for PrimeLib, focusing on timing, power, and noise model generation across process, voltage, and temperature conditions
  • Build and optimize multi-threaded and distributed computing workflows that process massive SPICE simulation datasets
  • Use AI-powered coding tools and LLMs to accelerate development cycles, from generating boilerplate to refactoring algorithms to prototyping new data handling approaches
  • Collaborate with product engineering, validation, and customer support to diagnose field issues, reproduce corner cases, and ship fixes that hold up in production
  • Drive performance improvements in characterization runtimes and memory usage at scale

The Impact You Will Have

  • Enable faster time-to-market for semiconductor designs by improving the speed and accuracy of library characterization workflows
  • Directly improve chip performance, power, and area outcomes by delivering higher-quality timing and power models
  • Help scale PrimeLib to handle the complexity of advanced process nodes and multi-dimensional corner analysis
  • Influence how AI-assisted development is adopted across R&D by demonstrating what works in high-stakes engineering
  • Support global teams who depend on PrimeLib to deliver libraries that feed into place-and-route, signoff, and design closure flows

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of software development experience
  • Strong command of C++ for performance-critical systems and Python for scripting and automation
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design for large, long-lived codebases
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix environments, including build systems and debugging tools
  • Hands-on experience with standard cell library development or characterization flows is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with SPICE simulation, process design kits, or timing/power modeling is valuable
  • Demonstrated use of AI-powered developer tools or LLMs to improve coding productivity is a differentiator

Who You Are

  • You can diagnose a performance bottleneck in a multi-threaded engine and know whether the fix is algorithmic, architectural, or just a bad lock
  • You write code that other engineers can read six months later without needing you in the room
  • You are comfortable working across time zones and do not wait three days for an answer when a quick call would close the loop
  • You push back when a feature request does not make technical sense, but you do it with enough context to move the conversation forward
  • You treat debugging like a skill worth practicing, you reproduce issues methodically and do not guess when you can measure

The Team You'll Be Part Of

You will join the PrimeLib R&D team in Bengaluru. PrimeLib is Synopsys' advanced library characterization tool that generates accurate timing, power, and noise models across process, voltage, and temperature conditions. The tool uses multi-threaded and distributed computing to speed up characterization while maintaining signoff-quality results. It integrates with the Synopsys EDA suite and supports advanced nodes with variation-aware modeling, enabling high-quality libraries that improve performance, power, and area outcomes.
