We Are

Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.

You Are

You have spent years writing software that lives in production, not proof-of-concept demos, and you understand the difference between code that works once and code that works reliably under real-world conditions. Building systems that scale across complex architectures is second nature to you, whether that means navigating a large C++ codebase or orchestrating multi-step workflows in Python.

LLMs and agentic systems fascinate you, not as buzzwords but as tools you can actually build with. You have worked with prompts, tool-calling patterns, and execution loops enough to know what breaks and what holds together. The idea of designing agent skills, defining tool interfaces, and building orchestration logic that actually helps engineers do their jobs faster excites you more than chasing the latest model release.

You do not need a perfect spec to start building. You ask the right questions, sketch out the design, and move forward with clarity. When something breaks in a multi-component pipeline, you dig in, find the root cause, and fix it properly. You care about maintainability as much as features because you know someone will need to extend this code six months from now. At Synopsys, you will build the agent platform that powers Verdi Assistant, a tool used by semiconductor engineers at some of the most advanced technology companies in the world.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and implement the Master Agent and Sub-Agent framework that orchestrates multi-step workflows, tool execution, and context handling across Verdi Assistant
  • Build and maintain MCP Server integrations, including tool and resource interfaces, authentication flows, and runtime reliability mechanisms
  • Develop backend services and orchestration logic in Python and C++ that power assistant workflows from planning through execution
  • Integrate LLM-powered capabilities such as planning, tool-calling, context management, and retry logic into production-grade agent pipelines
  • Define, develop, and maintain agent skills, including skill specifications, prompt engineering, tool bindings, and execution constraints that improve task quality and reusability
  • Improve observability, debugging tools, and performance profiling for agent execution pipelines so engineers can diagnose issues quickly
  • Collaborate directly with application engineers to deliver features to customers with short time-to-market, balancing speed with quality

The Impact You Will Have

  • Shape the technical foundation of Verdi Assistant's next-generation agent platform, defining how thousands of engineers interact with AI-assisted workflows
  • Increase assistant capability and reliability through robust Master and Sub-Agent orchestration that handles real-world complexity, not just happy-path scenarios
  • Enable scalable integrations through MCP Server infrastructure that other teams and tools can build on top of
  • Accelerate productivity for semiconductor engineers at companies like the Mag 7 and beyond by delivering practical AI-assisted workflows that actually save time
  • Influence how Verdi Assistant evolves as a product, contributing architectural decisions that will shape the platform for years
  • Build a system that runs in production across some of the most demanding engineering environments in the world, where reliability and performance are non-negotiable
  • Help define what good agentic AI engineering looks like at Synopsys, setting patterns and practices that other teams will follow

What You'll Need

  • Must have
    • MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
    • 3+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated depth in building reliable, maintainable systems
    • Strong coding skills in Python and solid development experience in C/C++ across performance-critical or systems-level software
    • Practical experience with LLM application development, including prompting strategies, tool-use patterns, context management, evaluation methods, and safety basics
    • Familiarity with agentic workflows such as planning and execution loops, tool orchestration, retry and fallback mechanisms, and multi-step task coordination
    • Understanding of agent skill design and maintenance, including skill decomposition, prompt and instruction authoring, and tool interface mapping
    • Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) tool and resource server development and integration is a strong plus
    • Strong Communication skills for multi-component collaboration
  • Nice-to-Have
    • Familiarity with EDA workflows, semiconductor design flows, or the Verdi/VCS ecosystem is a strong plus
    • Experience with production quality practices including code review, testing strategy, CI/CD, and release management is a strong plus
    • Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills in multi-component systems where issues span layers and dependencies

Who You Are

  • You enjoy solving ambiguous, cross-layer technical problems where the solution is not obvious and requires thinking through tradeoffs across architecture, performance, and usability
  • You can balance architecture quality with practical delivery timelines, knowing when to build for the long term and when to ship something that works today and iterate
  • You communicate clearly with both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders, translating technical decisions into plain language without losing the nuance
  • You take ownership from design through deployment and long-term maintenance, not just throwing code over the wall but ensuring it runs well in production
  • You are curious about new AI capabilities and can turn ideas into reliable product features, experimenting with new techniques but always grounding them in what actually works
  • You can explain a complex technical tradeoff in two sentences without oversimplifying, whether you are talking to a peer engineer or a product manager

The Team You'll Be Part Of

You will be part of the Verdi Assistant team, working closely with AI engineers, software engineers, and product partners. The team values technical depth, ownership, and pragmatic innovation with production impact.
