We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You are early in your career but already know that the most interesting problems in chip design are not the ones in the textbook, they are the ones that show up when a customer is three weeks from tapeout and their timing is not closing. You have spent time in internships or academic projects working with ASIC flows, and you learned that understanding the theory is only half the job. The other half is figuring out what went wrong, why the tool did what it did, and how to explain it clearly enough that the person on the other end of the call can actually fix it.
You are curious. When something breaks, you do not just escalate it, you dig in. You look at the logs, reproduce the issue, and try to understand the root cause before asking for help. You are comfortable learning new tools and flows without perfect documentation because you know how to read through examples, ask smart questions, and connect the dots. At Synopsys, you will work directly with customers and internal teams on real chip design challenges, learning from experienced engineers while solving problems that matter. This is where you build the foundation that turns you into the engineer customers call when things get hard.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide technical support to customers using Synopsys Physical Design tools, helping them resolve issues in their ASIC development flows
- Diagnose and troubleshoot customer problems by analyzing design data, tool logs, and flow configurations to isolate root causes
- Work closely with internal product engineering and R&D teams to reproduce issues, suggest workarounds, and escalate bugs that need fixes
- Respond to customer requests during critical design schedules, providing timely solutions or workarounds that keep projects moving
- Build working knowledge of Synopsys Physical Design tools and methodologies through hands-on customer engagements and internal training
- Participate in customer deployments and training sessions, helping teams adopt Synopsys tools and best practices
- Document technical issues, solutions, and customer feedback to improve internal knowledge bases and inform product improvements
The Impact You Will Have
- Help customers meet their tapeout schedules by resolving technical issues that would otherwise block their progress
- Improve the quality and usability of Synopsys tools by surfacing real customer pain points to product engineering and R&D
- Build customer confidence in Synopsys solutions by delivering reliable, timely technical support during critical project phases
- Contribute to the development of better methodologies and reference flows based on what you learn from customer deployments
- Accelerate your own technical growth by working on diverse customer designs across different process nodes and design styles
- Strengthen customer relationships by being responsive, thorough, and solution-oriented even when the problem is not straightforward
- Support the broader Applications Engineering team by taking ownership of support cases and learning to handle more complex issues over time
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering or related field
- At least 6 months to 1 year of internship or contractor experience in a global or multinational company, ideally in semiconductor or EDA
- Solid understanding of Physical Design flow, including placement, routing, timing, and basic optimization concepts
- Strong foundation in digital circuits, CMOS fundamentals, and ASIC design flow from RTL to GDSII
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux environments and basic scripting for automation and debugging
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers and colleagues
- Experience with Synopsys Physical Design tools such as Fusion Compiler, IC Compiler II, PrimeTime, or StarRC is a plus but not required
Who You Are
- You can take a vague customer description like "the tool is crashing" and turn it into a specific reproducer with logs and data
- Comfortable asking questions when you do not know something, but you also try to figure it out yourself first
- You stay organized when managing multiple support cases and know which ones need immediate attention versus which can wait
- You do not get frustrated when the answer is not obvious, you treat it as a puzzle worth solving
- Reliable enough that when you say you will follow up with a customer by end of day, it actually happens
- Open to domestic and international travel for customer visits, training, and onsite support when needed
The Team You'll Be Part Of
You will join the Silicon Design & Verification Applications Engineering team, working with experienced engineers who support customers on Physical Design flows and tools. This team collaborates closely with R&D, product engineering, and global AE teams to solve customer problems and improve Synopsys solutions. Your recruiter will share more about team structure, mentorship, and growth opportunities during the interview process.
Rewards and Benefits
We offer a comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits to cater to your needs. Our total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings. Your recruiter will provide more details about the salary range and benefits during the hiring process.
At Synopsys, we want talented people of every background to feel valued and supported to do their best work. Synopsys considers all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, military veteran status, or disability.
