We Are:

At Synopsys, we’re powering the era of Smart Everything — where silicon, software, and systems converge to drive innovation. Within our simulation and modelling group, we push the boundaries of computational mechanics to help engineers design stronger, smarter, and more reliable products. Our team focuses on advancing Mechanical APDL (MAPDL) capabilities, building world-class simulation technologies that shape the future of engineering design

You Are:

A passionate and technically strong Senior R&D Engineer with expertise in computational mechanics, material modelling, fracture modeling, and numerical methods. You bring hands-on experience in Advanced C++, Python, Fortran and you’re skilled in developing and optimising finite element solvers for multi-scale and nonlinear analysis. You thrive in collaborative, research-driven environments, communicate clearly, and take ownership from concept to delivery. Whether coding, testing, or solving challenging simulation problems, you bring rigour, curiosity, and a commitment to engineering excellence.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design, research, and implement advanced material constitutive models related to multi-scale modelling in MAPDL and related products.
  • Develop and enhance models for crystal plasticity, fatigue mechanisms, and micro-scale material behaviour.
  • Bridge microstructural and macrostructural simulation through innovative multi-scale modelling techniques.
  • Collaborate with global R&D teams to define, plan, and execute high-impact software development projects.
  • Conduct testing, bug verification, and beta validation across multiple solver components.
  • Partner with QA and product support teams to resolve complex technical issues and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Contribute to product definition by understanding market needs, customer workflows, and performance targets.
  • Mentor junior developers, share best practices, and promote technical excellence across the team.

The Impact You Will Have:

  • Advance the state of material and fracture modelling in MAPDL.
  • Improve solver accuracy, scalability, and performance for global users.
  • Enable engineers to design safer, lighter, and more efficient products.
  • Bridge innovation between academic research and real-world application.
  • Shape the future of physics-based simulation across industries like mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, and energy

What You’ll Need:

  • BS/MS/Ph.D. in Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably from premier institutions such as IISc, IITs, BITS, or NITs.
  • Strong background in computational mechanics, material constitutive and damage modelling, and fracture mechanics.
  • Hands-on experience with numerical methods, finite element formulations, and nonlinear solution algorithms.
  • Strong software development expertise with advanced proficiency inC++, Python, and Fortran.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies, object-oriented design, and data structures.
  • Experience developing commercial engineering software in cloud or HPC environments.
  • Proven experience leading technical projects and delivering high-quality software products.
  • Familiarity with software design methodologies, testing frameworks, and version control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Strong understanding of customer workflows and engineering simulation applications.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and foster technical excellence across teams.

Who You Are:

  • A computational thinker who thrives on translating mechanics into scalable simulation models.
  • A developer who values precision, performance, and elegant design.
  • A proactive and resourceful problem-solver with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communicator, able to articulate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in diverse, distributed environments.
  • Adaptable and quick to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Organised, able to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and professional growth.

The Team You’ll Be A Part Of:

You’ll join a high-impact R&D team of computational mechanics experts, software engineers, and scientists who are passionate about advancing finite element simulation technology. The team works at the intersection of physics, mathematics, and software engineering, driving innovation in Mechanical APDL (MAPDL) and related multi-physics solvers. Collaboration is core to how we work — you’ll engage with specialists across materials modeling, numerical methods, and HPC to translate complex physical behavior into robust, scalable software. Together, we push the boundaries of what’s possible in engineering simulation, enabling customers worldwide to design smarter, faster, and more reliable
